

Herbert "Herbie" May, 81, passed away at the Orlando Regional Medical Center on May 8, 2014. He was born on December 17, 1932 in Kellits, Clarendon, Jamaica and worked for several years with the Desnoes & Geddes firm (Jamaica) before migrating to Hartford, Connecticut in 1968. While residing in Hartford and then Bloomfield, he worked for Colts Firearms from where he retired 1999 after approximately thirty years. Herbert and his wife, Dorrett, relocated to Clermont, Florida, in 2003 where he added to his numerous friendship list. Herbie was super friendly and one could say he took it to the level of a hobby as he would ask folks he just met for their phone numbers, where they were from, etc. and then he would keep in touch with them from then on. Herbert was a member of Grace Bible Church of Central Florida and also of the Caribbean American Association of Lake County. Herbie met Dorrett Tyrell in 1956 and they were subsequently married on February 20, 1960 and the union produced three boys. Herbert was predeceased by his mother, Francella May-Johnson and father, Angus Newell, one son, Paul and brother, Alman Newell. He leaves to mourn his wife Dorrett May; sons, Devon May, Wayne May, and Broderick "Ricky" May all of Connecticut; daughter, Viviene May-Powell of Jamaica; brothers, Alric March of Florida, Johnny Newell of Jamaica, daughters-in-law, Debra May, Marcia May and Angela May all of Connecticut; son-in-law, Edgar Powell of Jamaica; sisters-in-law, Patricia March of Florida, Una Morrison of Florida, Rosie James of Connecticut, Selina McKenzie of the United Kingdom; brothers-in-law, Hopeton Tyrell of Connecticut, Dudley Blake of Florida, Rev. Alvin Morrison of Connecticut; granddaughters, Amanda May Sherraine DeGale, Michelle May, Delilah May, Dione May, Kaliani May, Jodie Powell-Lafayette and Julie Powell; grandsons, Jamal May, Malik May, Nathaniel and Gabriel May; grandson-in-law, Hugh DeGale; six great-grands and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends too numerous to list. Herbie was greatly loved by his family and all who knew him and his passing will leave a huge void in our lives.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 23, 2014 from 5:00pm-8:00pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, FL 34734 and Saturday, May 24, 2014 from 10:00am-11:00am at Grace Bible Church of Central Florida.
Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 11:00am at Grace Bible Church of Central Florida. Burial will follow Service at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
