Irene F. Pynn

Denying herself, she saw that her family wanted for nothing, developed a sense of self-worth and learned to treat all with respect.

She delighted in animals and shielded them from harm.

Although a private person, she would go out of her way to offer uplifting words to people she had never met.

And on Sunday, after nearly 91 years of living her life for others, Irene Pynn rested.

Mrs. Pynn was born in Providence, R.I., on Dec. 20, 1922, the first child of Frank and Ruby Farrell. She spent her childhood, along with her brother, Manning Farrell, in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and in Winchester, Mass. It was in the latter that she married and had her two sons.

The family moved to Casselberry in 1952 and a year later to Orlando, where she would become the administrator at Christ Church Unity, for years serving as the voice of Dial-A-Prayer -- a telephone devotional to which she recorded a new message every day.

Mrs. Pynn lived in Windermere and spent the past few years with the loving people at Winter Park Care.

She is survived by sons and their wives Manning (Kathleen) and Roger (Shelley), as well as grandchildren and their spouses Irene (Rob) Pynn-Cunha and Michael (Necole) Pynn.

Services at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m., Thursday. Visitation at 9:30 a.m. Those who wish may make contributions to the Irene Farrell Pynn Scholarship c/o UCF Foundation or the Humane Society of Orlando.
