

James graduated from Vandergrift High School and received a GED/Diploma and an Engineering certificate from the US Air Force.
He married Iris Robertson on May 28, 1992.
James had a career as an Airman First Class Regular Air Force for 20 years before retiring. He then worked for Charles E. Smith as a building engineer for 15 years and eventually for Townsend Square Boiler Room engineer for another 20 years.
He was a member of AM-VETS and had a passion for football, card games and tennis ping pong.
James is survived by his wife, Iris Cunningham; children, Deborah Cunningham, Dawn Brown, Wonda Brown, Stephon Cunningham, Terri Brown, Celia Simms and Ortez Glass; his grandchildren, Bryan and Joshua Brown, Matthew, Christopher and Marie Johnson, Nichelle Cunningham, Evita Davis-Williams, Dominique McCormick, James Thomas, Briana Robertson, and a host of nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 2 sons, James Cunningham, Jr., and Matthew Cunningham; his siblings, Leroy and William Cunningham, Dorothy Dabney and Mary Queener and his parents, Frank Cunningham and Clementine Robinson Cunningham.
A visitation for James will be held Friday, June 20, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, Florida 34734. A funeral service will occur Friday, June 20, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, Florida 34734. A committal service will occur Friday, June 20, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, Florida 33513. Repass will be held immediately following the burial service at 205 Jumper Drive N., Bushnell, Florida 33513 in the Community Room.
