He was adopted by Arlene and Renal Hook at the age of 14. He graduated from Manatee High School where he excelled on the wrestling tea,. He attended the University of South Florida where he met his future wife, Megumi, a University student from Japan. They both received their bachelors degrees while raising two sons and living in several states and Japan.
A celebation of life service for James will be held Sunday, January 10, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, FL 34734, followed by inurnment at 4 pm.
