He was born in Enterprise, Alabama on September 2, 1941 to the late J.C. & Mary (Mayo) Cooper.
He exceled in the construction industry, pouring his heart and soul into many of the buildings of our town, along with the concrete. And as God would have it, seated around the corner in the construction office accounting department, Joel spotted and wooed his beloved wife, Linda.
They built a wonderful life together, full of teaching and teasing and family days on the boat. Joel loved to fish, and he loved his family even more. He enjoyed simple things and shared simple but profound truths with his kids and grandkids.
They all miss Joel fiercely, and plan to remember him every time they gather together laughing on the boat, and many more moments in between.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents; his beloved sons, Lee and Tony Cooper; grandson, Joel C. Cooper; brothers, Harold Cooper, Gaston Cooper, Michael Cooper, and Monte Cooper; and sisters, Frances Stephson and Jean Wolf.
Joel is survived by his precious wife of 38 years, Linda Cooper; children, Brenda Sanchez, Sherrie Hart (Gary), Mike Adams, Melissa Hicks (Dave), and Michele Johnson (Mike); grandsons, Daniel Holton, Trent Hicks, and Ryan Hicks; granddaughter, Brook Hicks; brother, Tim Cooper; and, several nieces and nephews.
Please join us on Tuesday, August 29th at Woodlawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Gotha, Florida for a visitation at 10am and 11am graveside service.
