John was born June 20th, 1924, in Erwin, Tennessee. He served in the United States Air Force during WWII and was a POW in Germany for 15 months. In 1956, John married his sweetheart, Mary Esther Hambrick, in Griffin, Georgia.
In 1967, John started working for NASA, at The Kennedy Space Center, as a Quality Assurance Inspector. During his time at “The Cape,” John was involved with the Gemini, Apollo, and Space Shuttle missions. John also graduated from Jones Business College with a bachelor’s degree in business. Outside of his career, John was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and was active in his local church. His greatest joy was teaching others about The Lord. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, enjoyed going to the mountains, and loved spending time with his family.
John was preceded in death by his wife Mary of 60 years; parents, and two sisters, Beulah Mae and Dorothy. He is survived by his son and daughter, John Jr. and Linda; grandchildren, Amy, Christina, Amanda, and Justin; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Aiden, Austin, and Emma; sister, Ruth and several nieces and nephews. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His life was a living testimony to the love of Jesus to everyone he met.
