Jorge immigrated with his family to East Chicago, Indiana in 1975. He went on to graduate from Harrison Elementary, West Side Junior High School and Theodore Roosevelt High School, Class of 1985.
For the last 15 years of his life, Jorge called Orlando, Florida home. He found Orlando to be a place which granted him freedom and independence to live life on his terms.
Jorge always described Tangas with great pride as his happy place. His number one passion was to listen to Mexican ranchera music, especially Vicente Fernandez. In fact, his favorite song was “El Rey”
“Con dinero y sin dinero
Yo hago siempre lo que quiero
Y mi palabra es la ley
No tengo trono ni reina
Ni nadie que me comprenda
Pero sigo siendo el rey”
Jorge is preceded in death by his beloved grandparents Serafin and Rita Fernandez and Daniel and Elvira Mendez, and his devoted father, Humberto Fernandez Murguia, brother Serafin'63, nephews Daniel Luis Fuentes and William Daniel Mills.
He is survived by his adoring mother, Maria Luisa Fernandez Mendez, sisters Luly (Juan), Gaby, Mari (Manuel) and Rosy (Harold), Brothers Humberto (Celia), Leonardo (Rosa) and Serafin '67 (Rene), 14 nephews and nieces and several grand nephews and nieces, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
