Joseph R. Tito of Windermere, FL (formerly of Latrobe, PA) passed away peacefully on Friday, May 13, 2016, at the age of 89. He was born on October 30, 1926 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Ralph and Dorothy (McHale) Tito. Joe graduated from Central Catholic High School, and then entered the Navy where he served as Seaman 1st Class. Upon his honorable discharge at the end of WWII, he returned to Pittsburgh and attended Duquesne University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. A fresh graduate, he was eager to join the family business at Latrobe Brewing Company, brewers of Rolling Rock beer. Having mastered many facets of the business, he eventually became Vice President and co-owner of the brewery with his two cousins. Joe and his family sold the business in 1986, and he retired to Florida to pursue his real passion of golf.
Joe embodied the class and dignity the beer business was all about. With a gentle and positive outlook, he inspired those he encountered. Joe held strong to the notion that there is good in all of mankind, and constantly encouraged others to abide by the same principle.
Along with his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sister Roseanne (Tito) Donovan. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marian "Dutzie" (McIntyre) Tito, and his four children: Robert Tito and his wife, Barbara of Bradenton, FL, Barbara Ann (Tito) McIntyre and her husband, Jimmy Dean Curtis of Sarasota, FL, Dorothy (Tito) Hammett and her husband, Edward of North Granby, CT and Joseph Tito, Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth of Lake Mary, FL. Joe is also survived by three grandsons.
