Henry Judson Darden Jr. aka Dad, Papa or Jud was the epitome of the true Southern gentleman with his Alabama drawl. Born on March 2, 1924 in Sylacauga, Alabama where he met the love of his life at the ripe age of 6 years old. Little did he know that union would produce 4 beautiful children that enriched his life until his last breath.
Jud served his country proudly by joining the Army and serving in World War II and the Korean War. Upon completion of his service, he moved to Florida and graduated from the University of Florida, where he obtained his degree in Pharmacy. He had a long and wonderful career with the Upjohn Company until his retirement.
For those that met Jud, they knew they had a friend for life and enjoyed sharing a Scotch while listening to the wonderful stories he so eloquently told.
Jud's biggest accomplishments in life were his children, grandchildren and his marriage to his sweetheart Betty that lasted 63 years. Together they enjoyed traveling the country, camping, boating and spending time with family and friends. Their home became a second home to so many and even hosted some parties that they might not have been aware of until their children spilled the beans!
Jud is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Cecile Darden and his wife, Betty Jarvis Darden. He is survived by his loving children, Hank Darden (Sallie), Bob Darden, Ginger Darden and Beverly Darden, his grandchildren, Lane Darden (Chelsea) and Dabney Darden, who adored their Papa. He is also survived by his brother Wayne Darden (Pam) and sister Jean Hoag and numerous nieces and nephews that he loved very much.
We find happiness in knowing that Jud and Betty are toasting one another in Heaven for lives well lived and listening to Lawrence Welk. We stand taller and stronger, knowing they are now watching over us together - always believing .
There will be a reception following the service at the home of Lane and Chelsea Darden.
