Lenora Moore Bricker, 101, went to Heaven June 25, 2021, at her home in Winter Haven, Florida, where she resided with her great niece and nephew Caroline and Rafael “Buster” Echemendia. She was born September 18, 1919, to Elias and Ione (Waldron) Moore of Arcadia, Florida.
A 70-year resident of the Orlando area, Lenora graduated from Apopka High school and started her adventures sharing a house downtown with several girlfriends and working at Kresge’s. She then began a career with American Telephone and Telegraph where she developed the company’s training manual and traveled between offices training employees. After Lenora married Dr. William Bricker on September 1, 1950, she managed her husband’s podiatry office. Lenora loved being a member of First United Methodist Church in Winter Park.
But she knew how to live and celebrate life too. Lenora and her husband were members of the Orlando Flight Club, and in 1958, they flew to Cuba. landed in the famed sugar cane fields, and dined with President Batista. Lenora was also a member of the West Palm Beach Sailfish Club fishing out of Bill’s Marina with Captain Frank Ardine on the Sail Ahoy. As an avid world traveler, she was one of Holland America’s 5-Star Elite Platinum Medallion Mariners, spending more than 700 nights at sea. She adopted cats, hosted family Thanksgivings, gardened prolifically, charmed babies and teenagers with her hopeful, lipsticked smile, earned the devotion of several family dogs, drove too fast, and never met a party she didn’t enjoy or dress up for. Her razor-sharp memory and penchant for documenting life with a camera deemed her the perfect keeper of the family history. Her stories, spunk, and class act will be missed. She was a firecracker.
Lenora’s generosity touched so many. She helped others in need, inspired family and friends to see the beauty of the world around them, gave charitably to her church, turned strangers into friends, and meant it when she said, “I love you” to both people and her cats.
While she outlived almost everyone, Lenora is preceded in death by her husband Dr. William “Bill Baby” Bricker, sisters Velma (Luther) Walls and Edith (John) Haddock, brother Francis “Sonny” (Patricia) Moore, niece Glenda Floyd, nephews Kenneth “Amigo” Walls and Del Haddock, and friends too numerous to count. Aunt Lenora, as her grateful family knew her, is survived by Len (Margie) Walls, Rodney (Jan) Walls, Johnny (Sharon) Haddock, Rabun (Joyce) Haddock, Flavius Haddock, Gwen Farrell, Phyllis Sonday, Randy (Janine) Moore, Marty (Jodie) Moore, Rusty (Carol) Moore, Ralph (Debbie) Moore, Linda (Buddie) Banks, Brody (Janet) Bricker, 26 grand nieces and nephews, 33 great-grand nieces and nephews, a growing number of great-greats, and again, friends too numerous to count.
Services will be held Saturday, July 10, at Woodlawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, FL. Family viewing starting at 10:00 A.M. Service at 11:00. Graveside immediately following.
