It's so hard to say goodbye Ima but we are happy that you are with Tatang, Emily, Ricky, Betcha, Manong and Jen. We will miss you and love you always. You will be forever in our heart.

Melissa's Eulogy of Ima:

 Good afternoon. For those who don't know who I am, my name is Melissa PANGILINAN DeGuzman, one of Lilia's awesome 27 grandchildren. 
I was asked to write a eulogy for my grandmother and at first I said once in your lifetime is enough. I had written one for my mother almost 4 years ago and I know first hand how tough it is to speak highly of someone special in your life during the toughest times. And literally this morning I had a change of heart bc moments like this comes once in a lifetime. my grandmother is already having one of the most beautiful celebration of life I've been to and we just need a little reminder of why she was so special to all of us.
Our family calls her, Ima. I have no Idea what that means and in which language or dialect it comes from. I never asked, but to me it means: strong, loving, beautiful woman that is my grandmother.
Its funny how a couple weeks ago I had one of those bragging moments of Ima to my coworkers on her turning 91 and on how many children she had that started this huge family of PANGILINANS. to be honest i can't exactly tell you her secrets or "how tos" of living a long life. cleaning and gardening was her main type exercise. she had the same diet as most of us. she ate the lechon at the parties. no limits on the sweets and the carbs. even in the most recent years I catch her sneak a beer or two occasionally. if that's the secret, then I think it's safe to say we're ALL going to live a very very long life. Just like our dearest Ima. 
one of my favorite childhood memories with her was our road trips to and from orlando & new york. tita linda's husband, Manong, loved his road trips with his brown 7seater van. everyone in the car had their own seat; manong and tita linda in the front, julian and tita maret in the middle two seats, tito ricky and ima in the back, and my sister & i squeezing wherever we can fit. my favorite spot was snugged right next to ima where I would sit there and hold her hand for most of the 16/18 hr drive. I'd like to think she was never bothered by me holding her hand leaning my head on her shoulder for long hours. But that was her... patient, nurturing, loving woman that is our Ima.
we were at a family gathering soon after my mom had passed away. I looked & sat next to her and just wanted to comfort her. And her to comfort me after just losing her daughter and my mother. With ima being ima, she looked at me, smiled and said "where's mommy?" I looked at her so confused. she was just at the funeral- didnt anyone tell her? how do I break this to her? is this alzheimers? but then she just laughed with sad tears in her eyes [bc we are a family that laughs & cries together]. I knew this was her way of comforting each other. her way of letting me know that she was thinking of her too. not your usual way of comfort. but that was her.... funny, loving, humorous woman that is our Ima.
It was a little over a year ago when had her first stroke at close to 90 years old. I could not believe how quickly she recovered and how much she recovered. it was also a reminder of how strong willed she was even at her age. And also a reminder that was time running short and moments shared should be treasured and cherished. moments of saying 'I love you' are limited. I told her 'I love you' every chance I had. many times she would just look at me nod and smile her gracious smile, and I thought maybe she didn't hear me bc her hearing aid was off. but there was one time where she caught me off gaurd and replied 'I love you' in return. she was listening and knew what I was telling her this whole time!! And with this I take comfort knowing that while she is no longer here with us on earth I know she will always hear us from up above. I love you, Ima.

Julian's Eulogy of Ima:

Lilia Pangilinan. We're gathered here to celebrate the remarkable life of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother. There will be no sadness shed on this day, for we are a family that laughs and cries at the same time. So wipe your face and listen up.
 My name is Julian PANGILINAN Viray, I am one of 27 glorious grandchildren. Honestly, I was surprised to be asked to write Lilia's eulogy. I wouldn't think of writing such serious things as I usually take everything as a joke. But I saw this as an opportunity to express the awesomeness that is my grandmother in my own way.
 Ima never had a college degree, a successful career, or a vast amount of wealth. Take a look around and you'll see what she had. Us. Her legacy. The only thing in this world that mattered to our Ima was you. Sexy. Intelligent. Successful. Adorable. Lovable you. Her shining example of life has influenced us all.
 When you work hard, that's Ima in you. When you pray, that's Ima in you. When you chopping with that cleaver, that's Ima in you. When you're there for your family, that's Ima in you. When you laugh so hard, that's Ima in you. When you're making that sweet love, that's Ima in you (She had 13 kids, come on now). The point is she lives through you, by her God driven love and passion for her family. As you are all gathered here today, know that Ima is still here and she'll always be with you.
 We originally came from poor means and I can't even imagine the hardships that came with raising such a large family, but she did it. Not on her own, but with the help of her children who got us this far in life. What we can take from them is to follow in their footsteps. Work hard, follow the Lord, be there for each other, and continue to build the empire that is Pangilinan.
 When Ima was pregnant with her son Ricky, she went to a fortuneteller. The fortuneteller told her that her child would bring her luck and wealth. I don't think the fortuneteller had it wrong, in that she was wealthy with love and lucky enough to live such a long prosperous life. You can go to God now, ‘Ma. Along with Tita Emily, Tita Beth, and your husband who you've been apart from far too long. You've done your part; it's up to us now.
 We love you, ‘Ma. Thank you for everything. Miss, na miss..

Rest in peace Ima. God loves you and He wants you to be with Him in heaven. We will miss you, but we will always remember you in our prayers.

Love you Ima. Your the best auntie in the world you will be forever in my heart and will miss you.

Ima, thank you for everything... Rest in peace...love you and I will miss you.


Ima, I can never say goodbye to you because I could never bear the pain. Instead I say I love you and I will miss you so much, Ima. Until we meet again.

Ima, let me say, you were the most loving, kind hearted person I ever knew for a  mother in law .
You always showed you loved us. You were a person of peace, very generous and your pleasant personality radiates to all people who knew you. What a wonderful human being you had been. You will be greatly missed but you will live on forever in our hearts and we will always love you.
