Luisa Christina Hall Johnson, daughter of (the late) Selvin Hart Shippy and Ellen Roberta Allen was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world unexpectantly on August 15, 2023.
She was born in Puerto Limon, Costa Rica on August 8, 1940, and came to New York in the 1960’s with aspirations of maintaining a better life. Luisa completed her bachelor’s degree at the New York Institute of Dietetics, Inc. in Dietetic Food Service Management and went back to school to complete a master’s degree in education from Brooklyn College. Luisa’s pride and passion was in food service and nutrition where she served thousands of students as a Dietitian for the Board of Education of New York City, managing five Public schools and completing 36 years of service. Luisa retired in 2002 and moved to Windermere, Florida with her currently deceased husband, Robert B. Johnson and daughter Melanie Lynn Johnson where they created many precious memories and made many friends.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Luisa. She loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her loved ones. Everyone had their favorite dish they loved to request from Luisa. She enjoyed dancing and would light up a room with her beautiful smile and a two-step to songs by her favorite artists—Patti LaBelle, Tina Turner and James Brown. Most weekends you could find Luisa participating in several activities, which include going out to dinner with family and friends, shopping, gardening, physical fitness, sewing, watching sports, driving, traveling, and volunteering at the elementary school where her daughter worked. She had an uncanny ability to find happiness in her daily activities. Her pleasant personality was contagious to everyone she met.
The greatest legacy Luisa leaves behind for her family, friends and all those who crossed her path is kindness, because she was always filled with love and ready to give a helping hand. Her daughters and sons by love (Heidi, Jessica, Tasha, Traci, Andrea, Michelle, Sabrina, Tricia, Pavithra, Alex and Jason) will miss her dearly.
Luisa Christina Hall Johnson is preceded in death by her parents, the late Selvin Hart Shippy and Ellen Roberta Allen, her husband, Robert B. Johnson and siblings, Oliver Allen, Cecilio Allen and Lorenzo Allen. And left to cherish her loving memory, daughters, Melanie Lynn Johnson and Colette Johnson, two grandchildren, only sister, Felicitas Ervin, Sister by love, Fran Carnovali and other relatives and sorrowing friends including a host of nieces and nephews.
Mom, you fulfilled your journey on this earth with dignity, courage, and love. I will always be your baby. I still hear the words you would always say to me — “Mommy Loves you”. You will be missed, but we know that you are in a better place. May God’s everlasting love and glory always shine on you, and those you love.
You gave me life
To live as I please,
You gave me love and
Support to follow my dreams.
Your beauty lives
Forever deep in my soul,
The memory of your love
Fills my heart
And I am never alone.
