July 18, 1937- June 6, 2018
Lynnette Corrie Johnson, 80, of Daytona Beach, Florida died June 6, 2018, at home, peacefully in her sleep.
She had a very short illness starting 4 days prior, with a cold, cough and congestion. We think her heart gave out from coughing or it might have been pneumonia she was unaware of, but it’s unknown.
Lynnette was born July 18, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of the late Linder and Edith Corrie.
She graduated from Thornton Township High school in 1955. Located in Harvey, Illinois.
Lynnette started her career right out of high school working for Bear Brand Hosiery, in Chicago, Illinois where she was employed for 10 years.
She was hired in the accounting department but was promoted shortly after to secretary to the Executive President and also modeled panty hose for the department stores.
After moving to Florida her career was in the hotel industry where she was retired from The Shores Resort and Spa, formally known as The Hilton. She was the director of sales before being promoted to the secretary to the general manager of the hotel.
Since being retired she has spent her years enjoying her daughter, Michele, and grandson Nathan, living life to the fullest with them.
Since 2003 when her grandson, Nathan was born, Lynnette gained a new best friend. He was her pride and joy. She spent almost every day with him at the park, movies, baseball games, skateboard parks, school functions, playing games, etc. She got to spend 15 years watching him grow up to be a teenager, starting high school, getting his learners permit and learning to drive. He made her so proud. She even left a letter addressed to Nathan, to be opened upon her death, that she wrote several years back, telling him everything she wanted him to know about their times together, how happy she was, to make sure he follows his dreams and always make her proud, and that she would remain in his heart forever.
Lynnette enjoyed taking summer vacations to Westgate Town Center in Orlando with her daughter and grandson to celebrate hers and her daughters birthday every year.
Lynnette loved animals and was an active member and moderator of the Justice For Ponce Facebook group which helped bring awareness for harsher punishment for animal cruelty. Ponce’s Law was passed earlier this year in Florida. Thankfully she was able to watch the bill get passed as it meant so much to her.
She left behind many friends who she loved dearly. Survivors include her daughter, Michele Weise, a grandson, Nathan Vitiello both of Daytona Beach. Many aunts, uncles, and cousins from numerous areas, most originating from Mt. Carmel, Illinois from her mothers side of the family; The Bare Family
Preceding her in death were her parents and a sister, Charlene Behrns.
Visitation will be at 2:00 p.m followed by a service at 3:00 p.m on Saturday June 16, 2018, at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Gotha, Florida.
Arrangements entrusted to Woodlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home Gotha, Florida 407-293-1361
