MARGARET S. MOORE - Born: December 5, 1919, Entered the presence of her Savior, Jesus: March 4, 2014. She was one of four children born to Albert Hendrix Stone and Mabel Lyons Stone. She was born in Kuling, China where her father, an Episcopal minister, was the headmaster of a school for the children of American missionaries in China. The family escaped from China at the beginning of the communist revolution and moved to Honolulu, Hawaii where her father was the headmaster for the Iolani School. Margaret graduated from the Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii and went on to attend Kansas State University where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. At the start of WWII, she met and married an Army aviator who was shot down and killed during the early stages of the war. While her father, now an Army chaplain and the Chief of the Army Chaplain School was stationed at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, she met and married Chaplain Harmon Moore. During the course of her husband's 26-year career in the U.S. Army, Margaret moved the family 20 times including assignments in Japan, Alaska and Germany. Following retirement from the Army, the family settled in the Atlanta area where they worked and lived for 12 years before moving to Longwood, Florida in 1980. Margaret was active in PEO and a long-time member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. She will be well remembered for her faithful service as a military spouse and pastor’s wife, her unconditional love for and pride in her children, but perhaps her greatest pride is in her Down Syndrome son Jim who was the sunshine of her life and great helper in her latter years. She was pre-deceased by her husband Harmon, an infant daughter Julie, and a grandson Steven. She is survived by her sister Mary Yahnker of Greenville, NC, her sister-in-law Helen Stone of Chicago, IL, her daughter Joyce M Bates (Dennis McDougall) of Orlando, FL, her three sons Dr. David H Moore (Carleen) of Darlington, MD, Dr. Steven L Moore (Brenda) of Augusta, GA and James H Moore of Winter Springs, FL, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at 3 pm, Sat., March 8 at The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, Longwood, FL and a memorial service will be held when Margaret is joined with Harmon at Arlington National Cemetery.
