On September 15, 2012 @ 10:17 a.m., I received the worst news anyone can get. My friend, lover and husband Mariano (Lefty) Ortega Jr was called home to be with the Lord. God put his loving arms around him and whispered “Come Home”. With tearful eyes, I watched him suffer and fade away. My love and caring for him for the last 10 years could not make him stay. God broke my heart to prove to me that he only takes the best.
Lefty was born in New York City Harlem Hospital on April 12, 1943 to Mariano & Consuelo Ortega. He lived most of his childhood years between 103rd Street to 123rd Street in Manhattan New York. He entered the Air Force at the age of 18 (1961). We met originally when I was only 16 years old and at the age of 25 we met again on a very cold winter New Years Eve night (1970). We were united in marriage on May 20, 1973. We moved from the Bronx, NY in August of 1988 to Orlando Florida. He worked as a Sales Representative for Brown & Williams Tobacco Co, NYC Transit Authority, Orange County school bus driver, and also a bus driver for LYNX in Orlando Fl. He was most passionate about his Wife, his children and his love for cooking. He leaves behind his wife Milagros Ortega, his sons Richard-John Vazquez and Mario Ortega III and his precious daughter Priscilla A Ortega, his two grandchildren and three step grandchildren and a host of loving family and friends. He is gone but never forgotten.
My love and kisses until we meet again.
My dad was a loving and caring father. He was to the point whether you liked it or not. You either loved him or hated him but he was always going to tell you how it is! I never knew how much I’m just like my dad. He made me the strong person I am today. He was stubborn and rude at times but if he liked you boy you really knew it! He was a man of few words but his face would tell it all. If you were lucky to be in his circle he would show you he cared by cooking for you. You could always catch him at the Publix or at Dunkin Donuts, his two favorite places to be besides at home. He showed us much love!
Daddy like I told you we will all miss you so very much but we know you are in a better place and pain free! Our Bing Bing has wings to fly way up high. So the tears we will shed are some of pain and sorrow but mostly of joy that you are free to fly. This is not good bye because I know when my time comes my daddy will be the first one in line to welcome me home. Love your baby girl Priscilla, Mario & Richard.
Bing Bing we will miss you and we will always love you. Thank you for the good times we had! You will always be in our hearts! Love Aaliyah and Antonio.
