April 2, 1951 – August 24, 2026
Martha "Marti" Irene Cox, known to all as Marti, passed away on August 24, 2026, in Orlando, Florida, the same city she was born in on April 2, 1951. She was 75 years old.
Marti was a light to everyone around her, the kind of person who could walk into a room and leave it a little brighter than she found it. She had a gift for making people laugh, feel welcomed and loved.
She spent ten years working in attractions at Walt Disney World before retiring, but her true calling was found in service to others through her faith. A devoted member of St. Mary of the Angels Episcopal Church, Marti was part of the Daughters of the King, the Altar Guild, and St. Monica's, and she taught Sunday school with the same warmth she brought to everything else. She found deep joy in bringing communion to residents in nursing homes, never missing a chance to spread the word of Christ and remind others they weren't forgotten.
Marti was especially close to her sister, Janet, and the two were nearly inseparable. Week after week, they kept each other company through doctor's appointments, grocery runs, celebrating family, and never missed a chance to pick on one another along the way, the kind of closeness only sisters share.
Marti loved her family fiercely and proudly. To her nieces, she was always "Big Sissy." She cherished time spent with them, her nephew, and her closest friends. Her dog, Handsome, affectionately known as her "son", was by her side and in her heart always.
Marti was preceded in death by her parents, Clara Marie Lynch and Joe Byron Cox.
She is survived by her sister, Janet Leavitt; her brother, JB Cox; her nieces, Michele Scalf and Jennifer Leavitt; her nephew, Robert Leavitt; her great-nieces, Kylie Smoot and MJ Leavitt; her beloved dog, Handsome; and several loving cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held in memory of Martha "Marti" Irene Cox at St. Mary of the Angels Episcopal Church, 6316 Matchett Rd., Orlando, Florida 32809, in the Pine Castle area on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 11am. Following the memorial Marti will be placed in the garden at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Martha "Marti" Irene Cox to the Russell Home for Atypical Children, a nonprofit organization in Edgewood, Florida, 510 Holden Ave, Orlando, Florida 32839.
Marti's laughter, her faith, and her love for her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Rest easy, Big Sissy.
