

Mary Carolyn Curtis Davis of Clermont, age 87, passed away on March 15, 2016. She had resided at Westminster Towers Orlando Health Center since the death of her beloved husband, Alvin Davis, in December 2012.
She is survived by her children, Jim Davis (Karin), Carol Thompson (Jeff), Barbara Beavers (Richard), Beth Longshore (Jerry), and by her daughter-in-law Margaret Davis, who is the widow of Mary's late son, Curt Davis. She had nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mary was born in Eustis, Florida in 1928 and was the daughter of Carl T. and Dessie Lee Curtis. She was pre-deceased by her brother, Charles Curtis, and by her sister, Dorothy Stoops.
She was a 1950 graduate of Florida State University and taught in schools in Orange and Santa Rosa counties. She and her husband Alvin were married in November 1950 and adored each other for 62 years of marriage. Mary loved to cook for people and hosted many large family gatherings in her home. She and Alvin were active in the life of their churches, Powers Drive Baptist Church and First Baptist Church Clermont, until late in life. They were especially committed to teaching English literacy classes to immigrants. She will be remembered for her open arms, open heart, and generous spirit.
