Mike was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on September 2nd, 1956. He was from La Grange, Texas, the place he always called home. As a young man, Mike enlisted in the Navy where he served as an EOD Technician 1st Class in Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group 2. He was retired from Lockheed Martin.
Mike was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and Opa. He is survived by his wife, Kim; his children, Ashley (Pablo Midence) and Shannon ( J.W. Bulger); his grandchildren, Abby Midence and Luke Midence; his brother, Charles Hofmann; his sister, Phyllis Robinson; and his Mother, Barbara Hofmann. He is predeceased by his father, Charles Hofmann.
Mike was a spiritual man and was involved in many church activities at both Trinity Lutheran and Christ the King Lutheran Church. He was actively involved in Operation Barnabas, the Lutheran Church’s network of care to our nation’s military members, families, and veterans.
Mike enjoyed camping with his wife, Kim, and sailing in the Caribbean with Kim and friends. He will be deeply missed by friends, family, and all who knew him. He was the type of person who would strike up a conversation with anyone. You could be out-and-about with Mike, leave him for a few minutes, and come back to find he’s made friends with the person behind the counter. That’s the kind of guy he was. Life was never too fast for Mike to slow things down and take time to talk to the people he encountered in life.
Given the current pandemic situation, no services will be held at this time. The family gratefully declines flowers and gifts, but prayers are greatly appreciated. If you would like to donate to a cause that was important to Mike, please send donations to either Operation Barnabas or Gary Sinise Foundation. Both foundations support our nation’s military members, families, and veterans.
