Captain Sam was my USAF commander at Cheju Do in Korea 1971-72. A great man.

As it is my son’s 54th birthday today, I was reminded of the wonderful time I shared with friends at Langley Air Force base 54 years ago when Sam became a father within days of my son being born at Langley hospital. It was a busy time for the hospital staff; there were 3 of us from our circle of friends that became first time parents in May  of 1970.  While I was sad to find Sam’s obituary, I saw from the pictures the family posted what a wonderful life Sam enjoyed with all. He always was a fun guy, with a good sense of humor and a ready smile. He improved over the years, it seems, judging by his sense of style. I love it!  The one casual picture of him in uniform was as I knew him; I can see him standing like that in my kitchen, having a chat. I will never forget those wonderful days. I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Sam Sampieri. I had the pleasure of getting to know Sam as a friend many years ago. When I would travel for business on Southwest out of Orlando, Sam would often say, "hey kiddo, pick up the tan phone by the elevator in the Southwest terminal by the restaurant and I'll likely be the one to answer. I'll meet you for a few minutes before you head to your gate." I so enjoyed our conversations. Sam was one of the kindest, sweetest, most genuine people I have ever met. I believe his spirit will live on through the many memories that his family, business associates, and friends cherish. May GOD bless the Sampieri family as they grieve their great loss.

My heart goes out to the family of Sam during this time.  
Once, while serving on the Central Florida Womens League Charitable Granting Committee...we ran into a dilemma.   The Russell  Home was required to get another van or be shut down by the state due to a new law. Our funds wouldn't  cover it.  Knowing that Sam represented a part of Southwest Airlines in their  Charitable  areas, I called him.  No red tape, he was jumping in first and then asking.  The need was there, and his devotion  to such a worthy organization  was clear! 
Linda,  love you and you always have a friend!  Thank you Sam for being one of the good guys!

Sammy it was an honor to know you and visit you in your SWA office with m&m's always available.  Also cooking at the Ronald McDonald house ! You told me all about the Cayman Islands and the great  Italian restaurant Cassanova's there!  Was always fun speaking Italian with you.  Southwest loves you and rest well paisano.
