Odila was born in Mordazo, Santa Clara, Cuba in 1916. She emigrated from Cuba to Miami, Florida in 1967. In 1974, she relocated with her daughter to Orlando, Florida, and remained in the area for over 50 years. She became a United States citizen in 1984.
Odila was known among her friends for her humor, generosity, and down-to-earth nature. She had a variety of interests, which included growing violets, going to the movies, reading Isabel Allende novels, and staying in contact with her loving nieces in West Palm Beach. She enjoyed travel and visited California and Hawaii; she also visited Cuba several times, and remained in regular contact with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In later years, dementia and other health conditions precluded these activities, but she retained her love of singing, and of “que lindo hombre” actor Richard Gere.
Odila is survived by her sons, Denzil Juan Viera Garcia and Dennis Pedroso; her daughter, Sandy Adams; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her oldest son, Reginald Viera Garcia, and her husband, Calixto Pedroso.
At Odila’s request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made to Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
