She was born on March 6, 1933 in Hatillo, Puerto Rico to Juan and Julia Mieles. She was the middle of three children and all of her younger years into adulthood were spent in Puerto Rico.
After graduating from Arecibo High School, Olga earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras. During this time, she met her husband, Louis, and they married on December 25, 1953. After being a schoolteacher for many years, a profession she adored, she went on to earn her Master’s Degree from New York University. In 1979, Olga and her family moved to Temple Terrace, Florida, where she built a long and successful career in the insurance industry. She worked as a Licensed Life, Health, Property & Casualty agent, then advanced to Field Representative, before becoming an Investigator for the Florida Department of Insurance. She ultimately served as Regional Director of the Department’s Tampa Service Office, overseeing five counties, until her retirement in 2004.
Olga was deeply engaged in her community. She served on the Mayor’s Hispanic Advisory Council, volunteered for LifePath Hospice, and remained passionate about politics, participating enthusiastically in various local organizations.
She found joy in her faith, especially reading the Bible, and loved gardening, sewing, traveling and her cats. Her beloved cat, Spooky, made the journey from Puerto Rico to Florida with the family and was a cherished companion, later joined by many equally adored cats including Snoopy, Bootsie, and Zorro.
