He was the fifth of nine children for Daniel and Florence Myrie. Oswald attended school at the Revival All Age in Westmoreland, Jamaica. He was a man of many skills and trades for which he mastered, giving him the ability to have a very productive living.
He was very helpful and loved in his home and community growing up as a young man. As a young man, he helped his parents in the field and cared for the goats. When he wanted to leave home in the country to move to Kingston, his parents never wanted him to leave because he was the oldest son left in the home. Nevertheless, they understood why he had to move. He moved to Kingston seeking better opportunities and worked for some time with KIW Orbit and Tank Weld Construction, where he gained
excellence in the production of plastic bottles and excelling in his masonry skills, which was how he earned his livelihood for most of his life.
In addition to being a mason, he worked in the charcoal mines. As a child and young man, he was raised in a Catholic home, but later joined the Seventh-day Adventist church, which he attended faithfully since the early sixties.
In 1969, Oswald met the love of his life, and lifelong partner Dorothy Blake, in Kingston, Jamaica, and they were married on December 22, 1971. They have four children. Sharon, Sharol, Junior, and Richard. Oswald was a kind and loving father and husband. He provided for his family as best as possible to ensure that his children accomplished as much as possible. He loved his brothers and sister and always ensured that his children went to visit them on holidays in the country. He made sure they remembered their roots.
Oswald moved to Spanish Town in early 1974 and continued to be an enthusiastic Adventist. He always ensured that he instilled the love of God in his children. He and his family were among the founding members of the Corletts Road SDA Church in Spanish Town, Jamaica, where he served as Deacon from 1980 to 1999. He was a devoted member of the church and worked on several church-building projects. He was passionate about getting the work done in a timely and meticulous manner. He also had a love for sports. He enjoyed taking in a good game of cricket and was quite a cricket player himself.
In September 2019, he, and his wife Dorothy, migrated to the United States to join their children and family. He was a loving father and husband. Perhaps, one of the most modest people we’ve all come to know. In fact, to see him disgruntled left you with a chuckle, because it was rare to see and almost comic to witness. He was a very proud grandpa. At every opportunity he reminded his grandchildren how much he loved and prayed for their well-being and for them to always remember to pray and respect their parents. When with them, he enjoyed taking walks.
In his later years, Oswald experienced several health challenges, that he would tell you he was able to overcome by the power of God and the love of his family. His feverish faith never ran out, even in his last days. His devotion for God, never ceased.
On January 29, 2023, he fell asleep in the Lord awaiting the sound of the trump of God. He follows in passing his brothers: Albert Simeon Myrie, Wesly Myrie, Frederick Myrie, Aston Myrie and Syrell Myrie.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory and celebrate his life, his wife Dororthy Myrie, four children: Sharon Johnson, Sharol Myrie- Pegues, Junior Myrie, and Richard Myrie. His four grandchildren: Amirah Myrie, Amyah Myrie, Amariyah Myrie, Amarion Myrie. One great-grandchild: A’ira Myrie- Reynolds. His siblings: Rupert Myrie, Winston Myrie, and Theresa Myrie-James. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Oswald Francis Myrie, will be greatly missed. He touched each and everyone of us and has left us with memories we will forever cherish until we meet again on the sea of glass in heaven.
