He was born in Tehran, Iran. He lived with extensive heart disease for 8 decades, following a childhood bacterial infection. In recent years, his cardiac disease progressed, and we could not ultimately reverse the tide. But for more than 80 years, through surgeries and procedures and hospitalizations, he persevered, and not only persevered, but thrived and lived a full, energetic, and enriched life.
He traveled the world. He studied various topics from history to literature, to global politics. He had friends across the globe. He worked for many years at the Iranian Petroleum Company. He married, had two children, and raised a family. He built a loving home for them in Iran and later, in the US.
The revolution and war in Iran created an upheaval for our family, and we ultimately travelled to the US to start a new life. He watched his children go to college and graduate school and succeed in life. He was very proud of them and their accomplishments and spoke of this often. The truth is that he was responsible in so many ways for that success and accomplishment. He was an absolutely wonderful father to his two children, both of whom will miss him terribly.
Above all, and what matters in the end, is that he was a good man. He was kind to those in his life, regardless of position or rank or degree. He gave to charities and cared for those less fortunate. He helped where he could and was there for loved ones. He was devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was an abiding, supporting, loving presence for all of us, a presence that will be so dearly missed. Regardless, he will be with us in our hearts as we go through our lives, and we will do our utmost to pass along his memories, his values and approach to life to our future generations.
He is survived by his family - his wife, Farideh Sabeti Fathi of Orlando, FL, his children Dr. Amir Tahmasb Fathi of Cambridge, MA and Azadeh Fathi of Boston, MA, his daughter-in-law Dr. Kamaneh Montazeri of Cambridge, MA, his beloved grandchildren Aria Nojan Fathi and Dara Sepehr Fathi of Cambridge, MA, and his sister and brother, Pari Fathi and Bahram Fathi.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, November 10, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Woodlawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, Florida 34734.
