Raj was born in Kenya in 1962 to Harcharan Singh and Harjit Kaur Thind, and was always the person whose laughter and joy consumed every room. Raj attended Westwood High in England before moving to the United States and initiating his career in restaurant management, mortgages, and insurance.
Raj is predeceased by his forever bride, Florea. He is survived by his parents, Harcharan and Harjit Thind, his son, Korey, his daughter, Toriana, his sisters, Rani (Charanjit), Bubly (Dara), his brother, Sanj, his nieces and nephews Savrina (William) Cribb , Rajeev (Katie) Mann, Navin Mangat, Kevan (Amy) Mangat, Sonia Thind, Neena Thind, and countless other relatives and close friends.
From a very young age, Raj was a happy and selfless person. Nothing brought him more joy than seeing others’ happiness, whether it was beloved family members or strangers, although no one was ever really a stranger to Raj. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, and particularly adored spending time with the ladies because their conversations were abundantly more exciting than the guys. That wasn’t to say he didn’t love spending time with the guys, as he did this often while cheering on his favorite football team, Liverpool.
Although interactions with extended family members and beloved friends were vital to Raj, nothing brought him more joy than his beloved bride, Florea, and their two children, Korey and Toriana.
From high school band field trips to England watching Korey play the clarinet to cheering on Toriana as she dominated the pool in water polo, Raj’s heart was most complete when surrounded by his wife and children, listening to their favorite band, U2. In the words of U2’s hit, Walk On, “And if the darkness is to keep us apart, and if the daylight feels like it is a long way off, and if your glass heart should crack, and for a second you turn back, oh no, be strong.”
