Richard Lawrence Jones

Richard Jones, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on August 17, 2026, with his devoted daughter by his side. Born on January 9, 1939, in Victoria, Virginia, Richard’s journey was one filled with love, laughter, and music.

Richard (Dick) was the cherished son of William Jones and Fannie Rutledge and grew up alongside his brothers, Clyde and Henry Jones. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, and his beloved son, Larry Jones. Despite these losses, Richard’s heart remained full, sustained by the love of his surviving family members.

In a marriage that spanned over 55 years, Richard and his wife, Nancy Yates Jones, built a life overflowing with joy and companionship. He is survived by his children: son Sonny Jones and stepson Jerry Ramer (Tena), and daughters Gayla Jones (Mark) and Cindy Jones (Shawn). Richard was also a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Emma Jones, Nanette Maragni, Elizabeth and Derek Jones, Lawrence Jones, and Nicholas Maragni, along with a host of step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, all of whom he cherished dearly.

Richard was a skilled carpenter by trade, retiring early to pursue his passion for music and to be home with his wife. A talented musician, Richard was an avid member of a bluegrass band in St. Cloud, where he delighted in singing and playing his guitar and banjo. His love for music was only rivaled by his faith, as he was a strong believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Those who knew Richard will remember his quick wit, warm smile, and the way he could lighten any mood with a well-timed joke or a heartfelt song. His presence was a comfort to many, and his legacy of love and laughter will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him.

A service to celebrate Richard’s life will be held on August 22, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Richard's generous spirit.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Vitas Hospice for their compassionate care during Richard's final days. His memory will be cherished forever, and his spirit will live on in the stories, laughter, and music he leaves behind.
