

RICHARD "WHEELS HOFFMAN SWOSZOWSKI, born 4 May 1931, Baltimore, Maryland. Died on 22 January 2011. Richard served in the Merchant Marines with the Atlantic Refining Company of Philadelphia from 1947 to 1950, He then entered the Navy reserve in Philadelphia and then he joined the US Army and served his country in Korea and Germany. He earned the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Paratroopers Bade, Silver Star and Purple Heart. In 1954 he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served with distinction and honor in the following countries: Japan, Philippines, Okinawa, and various states in the United States. Served two tours in Vietnam with Marine Helicopter Units, and earned the Air combat crewmembers badge. Retired in 1971 and moved to Orlando shortly thereafter. Worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 23 years in Boston, Mass. and Orlando, FL. In Boston, Mass. Earned two Associate degrees in Hotel Restaurant Management and Management from both Graham Junior College and Charlestown Junior College. Life member of VFW 4287, Past Commander of VFW 4287, Past Junior and Senior Commander of VFW Florida District 18, Board member of the Disability Advisory Board of Orlando, FL, Past President of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 761, Life member and South/West coordinator of the 1st Marine Wing Vietnam Service, Life member of DAV Chapter 16. Survived by his wife, Noreen, brothers, Robert Swoszowski of Gainesville, GA and Raymond Ford of Cummings, GA; children, Marcella Frazier of Hempstead, NC and Diane Warzal of Milford, CT, Tony Monaco of Boston, MA, 8 grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren. Son, Michael Swoszowski predeceased Richard. Graveside service will be held at 11 am, Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
