Robert L. Swanson, age 93, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, community leadership, and profound love for his family. Born July 2, 1933, Robert lived by a simple but powerful code: he always “showed up.” Whether it was for a long day of work or an important milestone for someone he loved, Robert was a steady, dependable anchor who could always be counted on.
A proud lifelong merchant, Robert laid the foundation for his successful career by earning his undergraduate degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, before furthering his studies in the MBA program at the University of Chicago. His professional journey began in Kansas City, Missouri, where he worked with Hallmark Cards and Kansas City Research.During his time in the area, he also shared his knowledge by teaching economics classes at Rockhurst College.Robert’s career in retail and merchandising took him across the country. He served as a retail executive for Montgomery Ward and later relocated to North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, where he served as Vice President of Merchandising for Lowe’s Home Improvement. His career then brought him to Florida, where he became Vice President of Merchandising for Scotty’s Home Improvement.
Robert concluded his career in Auburndale, Florida, serving as President & CEO of Fi-Foil Company until his retirement. Throughout his professional life, he valued relationships, integrity, hard work, and the importance of showing up every day for the people who depended on him. As accomplished as Robert was professionally, he was a source of strength and stability to those he loved and found his greatest joy in simply being present for them.
