Rosie was born on January 30, 1935, in Hanover Kansas to the late Louis and Helen Luehring. She was the youngest of 3 children. She enjoyed growing up on a farm which fostered her love for horses and farm animals, pretending many of them were her babies. She graduated from Hanover High School and moved to Kansas City, MO and attended school to become a teletype operator for Trans World Airlines. She was transferred to Dayton, OH, where she met and fell in love with Ted, and they eventually married on June 22, 1957. Ted’s job with Martin Marietta moved them to Orlando, FL where they lived for over 60 years.
Rosie dedicated her life to raising their three children, Daniel Sloan (Patti), Kimberly Anderson (Danny), and Lori Wood. She enjoyed sharing with them her faith, her vast creativity, a love for music, and the importance of serving others. Once the children were in school, Rosie became a teacher’s aide at Forrest Park School, serving the handicapped, for 14 years. Her God given gifts of serving those in need stretched far and wide. She ministered to women at the 33rd Street Women’s Jail, served at the House of Hope, and worked with the American Red Cross disaster relief. For years, she would bring her cassette player to different retirement centers and sing to the elderly, just to make them happy. Rosie also enjoyed serving side by side with Ted, offering food to the homeless through a street ministry in Orlando. One of her creative accomplishments was co-owning a Quilling business and publishing a book about quilling in 1973. She was musically talented and sang in the choir, played the organ by ear, and played the drums in several bands, including a worship band. Second only to Jesus, Rosie’s great love was her growing family. She took pride in having 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. It was important to her to attend their sporting events and school programs and her supportive presence will be greatly missed.
Rosie was a woman of prayer and enjoyed her SOAR prayer group. She also had her own long list of people and ministries she prayed for daily. She selflessly gave to many ministry organizations, especially those who protected the unborn, our country, Israel, and freedom of faith. Rosie never met a stranger and remained a faithful friend to many over her lifetime. All who knew her will forever remember her smile, and her love for Jesus and others.
