

Setsuko Ichihara Russ of Orlando, Florida passed away peacefully on December 18th, 2021 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC. Setsuko was born in Sasebo, Japan on January 3rd, 1930. She was the daughter of Harue and Hisaii Ichihara. She married her husband Jimmie Russ in 1955 and traveled with him to various US Army assignments around the world.
Setsuko was extremely independent and lived on her own for 20 years after the death of her husband. Only recently did she require a stay at an assisted living facility, BD Wekiwa Springs and later Morningside of Gastonia, NC. She was an active member of Southside Baptist Church in Orlando, Florida. She also volunteered at Oviedo Medical Center several times per week, was a member of a Japanese women’s group and her local YMCA. She retired from Dillard’s department store after many years of service as a Coach Specialist. Most importantly, she was a friend to many, always with a smile on her face or a witty remark or comment.
She is survived by her three children Frederick Russ, Virginia (Danny) Hartley and Frieda (Lief) Erickson, her seven grandchildren: James Russ, Nicole Marshall, Michael Russ, Christopher Russ, Sy Trabulsy, Nathan Hartley and Aaron Hartley and seven great-grandchildren. She also has a brother, Katsunori (Hisae) Ichihara and nephews Katsuhiko (Kaoru) Ichihara and Norihiko (Kyoko) Ichihara and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews who will miss her very much.
A celebration of Setsuko’s life will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, FL 34734 on Monday January 3rd, 2022 at 10:00 AM.
