Sydney Arthur Fraser was born the second child to Jacob and Sissy Fraser on February 17, 1926. He married Clara P. Dixon in December of 1949 and they raised 7 children. In his early years, he was a man of many skills. After his education in the Cokes View Public School system, he was trained as a professional carpenter and practiced his trade both in Jamaica and the developing Grand Bahama Island, where he served as a Bahamian police and moonlighted after hours building homes. In Jamaica he was able to ascend to Police Constable. He was known for defusing many confrontations with his tactile language, in fact it was noted that he only had to locked up one criminal during his tenure. Many asserted his brilliance as a police officer was due to his calling as a minister which he did every night after hanging up his uniform. He wore many hats, both literally and figuratively. He was an entrepreneur who owned an ice house in Sav-La-Mar, the capital of Westmoreland Parish, a necessity in Jamaica in the fifties and sixties. He did all this while helping to raise six boys and one girl. The family immigrated to the USA in the early 1970's. Sydney took many jobs to help the family realize the American Dream. The one constant in his life was his love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and for his family. Despite a divorce, he still believed in family and never lived more than 5 miles from them. Over the years, he helped to educate all seven children to a college education or higher. He continued to preach at Grace Baptist Church and Shiloh Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, and New Rochelle, NY respectively where the family resided. He honed his skills which culminated in his tenure at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Sydney and Shirley Pino met and married in 1976. They lived in New Rochelle, NY, Bronx, NY and Retired in Altamonte Springs, FL, where they were members of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and were married for 38 years until they departed this life in December 25 & 26, 2014.
