He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 10, 1926 to the late Joseph and Ann (Weintraub) Wishnow.
Stan enlisted in the U.S. Navy on his 18th birthday and served during WWII on the U.S.S. Cone.
After the Service, he met his beloved Edythe Shapiro Wishnow and enjoyed 65 years of marriage with her and their two children, Richard and Jay.
Though they lived in Delaware for some time, and came to Florida in 2000, Stan was always an Eagles’ fan. He loved watching sports, playing golf and traveling with his wife on cruises, as well as trips he earned through his insurance career.
Stan was always starting something, initiating several events as president of the men’s club in his synagogue in Wilmington… In the senior community where they retired, he wrote plays for the residents to perform; he organized parades for the residents to commemorate the anniversary of the community. Folks decorated their golf carts and took their place in the revelry. In fact, a parade was organized for Stan and his fellow WWII Veterans one year by an organization touring Navy Vets through the nation’s capitol –when they returned from their trip, they received a regular heroes’ welcome in the streets.
Stan celebrated life and he will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and brother, Edward Wishnow.
Stan is survived by his lovely Edythe, sons Richard and Jay Wishnow, granddaughter Erica Wishnow, nieces and nephews Barbara Beams, Linda Akell, Terry Wishnow, Beth Wishnow & Brian Wishnow and dear friends and neighbors.
Stanley was laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida on August 17, 2018.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation in Stan’s Name to the Mike Conley Hospice House in Clermont, Florida. Condolences may be offered at www.woodlawnfuneralhomegotha.com
