Teresa Foley Hinton was born in Michigan on February 6, 1947, to Kenneth James and Jeanne McDonald Foley. Her family moved to Orlando in the early 50s, and she has been a Floridian ever since. While growing up in the church, she developed a strong faith in Jesus and enjoyed choir and winning Bible knowledge competitions.
She graduated from Edgewater High School in 1965 and then attended Orlando Junior College for an Associate’s Degree. Two qualities she greatly exhibited were patience and longsuffering which served her well throughout her life and work. Terrie excelled at cosmetology in her early adult years.
She married Jay S. Hinton, Jr. in Orlando on October 19, 1968. Once her children arrived, she devoted herself tirelessly to their care and happiness. When her youngest son started kindergarten, Terrie embarked on a thirty year career helping children succeed in school. She specialized in teaching emotionally and mentally disabled children and children who needed a bit more help and attention. As her health issues mounted, Terrie’s spiritual gifts and faith in Jesus helped her endure much affliction with a smile while offering hope and encouragement to others around her. She continued to enjoy listening to Christian music, knitting blankets and baby bonnets for charity, and seeing her grandchildren throughout her life.
Teresa passed into eternity on February 2, 2020, in Orlando. She is survived by her husband Jay; her sons Jay (Gina) and David (Colleen); her grandchildren Noah, McKenzie, Connor, Logan, and Nathaniel; her mother Jeanne Foley; and her brother Doug Foley.
Funeral services will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home, located at 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road in Gotha, Florida, 34734 on February 16, 2020, beginning at 3pm with a reception to follow. The family will receive friends the hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to Reading is Fundamental (RIF.ORG) or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF.ORG).
