Victor was born in Naranjito, Puerto Rico on February 9th, 1923 to J. Candelario Tañón and Josefa Rodriguez.
He worked for the US Department of Agriculture in Mexico, Autoridad de Fuentes Fluviales de Puerto Rico (Power Company) and then as a Vocational Teacher for CET in San Jose California. He also served in the Army as a medic and the Navy in communications. He was an Ohio State University alumnus and obtained his teaching credential at San Jose City College.
He was a devout Catholic and a man of strong faith in God, always active in the church and the community. He was a great writer and wrote hundreds of poems, of which many were published in Puerto Rico and Mexico. He was a great cook and loved food from different countries; and, made the best typical Puerto Rican dishes the whole family loved. His hobbies included western and action movies, books, puzzles and travel. He was an outstanding father and loved by all who knew him. He loved everyone and loved making people happy. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Rosa, to whom he was married for 54 years
and by his grandson, Joey Cavallaro.
He is survived by his children Richard, Gloria, Alma, Rosa (Cissy), Victor (Papo) and Heli Tañón; his grandchildren Alex, Ismael, Richard, Victor, Rosana, Joel, Evan, Tiana, Kassandra, Rachel, Justin, Elijah and Samantha; his great grandchildren Isaiah, Cameron, Leah, Isabela, Joey, Luna, Eveleana and Fred; and, his siblings Paulita, Jacin, Rafael, Manuelita, Carlos and Miguel.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Woodlawn Funeral Home in Gotha, Florida.
Services will be held at St Andrews Catholic Church, 801 Hastings, Orlando, Florida 32808 on Monday, May 14th, 2018. Visitation from 10-11am and Mass at 11am followed by the committal at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, FL 34734.
