Vilma's formal education was in Jamaica where she met and fell in love with Lushington Allwood and married in the early 1950's. From their union they had four children, three sons and one daughter. Derrick, Repole, Lushington Jr., Andrea and Cassandra- her Grandaughter whom she raised as her child.
Vilma was a visionary, trailblazer and a strong believer in self-empowerment and education. Beginning her formal education in Jamaica, she and her husband moved their children to the United States where they settled in Brooklyn, NY in pursuit of a better opportunity. Vilma continued her education in the medical field and worked as a Nursing Assistant at New York Hospital until retirement, after which she relocated to Orlando, Florida.
Always moving forward, Vilma opened a group for mentally disabled young adults. A true matriarch. Vilma aided those in her care to lead productive lives. She was beloved by her patients, while also maintaining her family home with love and support. Despite her illness that befell her in 2006, her light continued to shine. She remained concerned for all her family, still offering guidance and direction. Vilma will be remembered as a strong, passionate and spiritual person who always offered a laugh or a smile, even in the face of adversity.
Preceding her in death is her husband Lushington and her eldest son Derrick. Left to mourn are her children Repole, Lushington Jr., Andrea and Cassandra who is considered her daughter, three Daughters-In-Law; Varene, Louise, Colleen (Sandy) and her Nephew Rick who she held very close to her heart like a son. Her Grandchildren Njeri, Tuere, Kenvin, Karlana, Macabe, Mathew, Meshak, Sadik, Asha, Malakie, (Great Grands), Aalyak, Aniyah, Najeyah, Shaun, Chian, Chavez, Royal and a host of Neices, Nephews and other family members.
On March 31, 2021 God called Vilma home to rest in peace.
