As a young man, Bill Mead knew I was looking to purchase a vehicle. Along with Tim Peters, he invited me to lunch to give me some life skills education. He told me not to finance a vehicle because they depreciate value. Only finance things that appreciate in value. I looked at him side eyed, he looked at me side eyed. He said of course you don’t have $20,000 cash waiting around for you to buy a vehicle instead he handed me this book.

22 years later, I get to do the same to someone. Thank you Bill. I love you and I miss you.

Rare that your boss is also you mentor, friend and personal advisor. Bill was all of those and more. Very missed. Miss you Bill, Russ

Bill was my boss and mega-mentor for nearly twenty years. He taught humility over hubris. Character counted over any other ability or quality. Hotels can be fun hard work and Bill emphasized the "fun" part. He made me a better GM but more importantly; a better person. He left us way to early. Very much missed and loved. Russ Smith

I admired Bill a great deal as a man and a friend. He was always quick with sage advice or a quirky, fun fact. 
He achieved the American dream by starting at the bottom and through sheer dedication and an insatiable appetite for knowledge, worked his way up to the life he envisioned for himself.
He also never forgot where he came from and paid forward his blessings to so many of us.
I will see you again my friend and, of course, we will go get something to eat!

Celebrating a life well lived. That is what this website suggested I write here, and I agree. Uncle Bill was an inspiration to so many people. His life touched not only our family, but everyone who had the privilege to have known him. He was generous in so many ways- with his knowledge and his heart. Uncle Bill was the "cool uncle". I will never forget him under the Christmas tree putting together and playing with all the kids' toys and Grandma scolding him "Bill! Let the kids have a turn!" I learned so much from him- not just about business, but about life and love. You will be greatly missed, Uncle Bill.

Bill was one of the most remarkable men I have ever met. He was bright, caring, fun, quirky in his own way and I never met a man who's knees would shake so much over a two foot putt with a dollar on the line. He was my boss and mentor for 10 years and a dear friend for over twenty. Bill, I can say this for many, we love you and will be truly missed.

I am a better person after knowing my uncle Bill. I looked up to him not only for the great man he was but also because of the life/business knowledge he shared with me. I will follow in his footsteps throughout my life, as Bill lived, loved, and studied life to the fullest.

Even though we didn't get to spend much time together, I always held memories of you. I remember you, Grandpa Hardigree, and Dad going golfing:) I have always had the up most respect for you. Such a smart man and always so kind. Love you and until we meet again...

Bill was passionate about life, and that means with whatever he was doing at the time.  And, he would tell us to live well to be remembered well.  In a conversation in the comfort of his sunroom in Greensboro, Bill reflected on work and family.  He said he was okay leaving this earth because he could not think of anyone that he had hurt intentionally or didn't say he was sorry, and if not, the Lord has taken care of it. He cared about his footprint on this earth, and the faithfullness he had shown to family.  In carrying the conversation, only love and peace were in his words- all I could say was 'amen'.... Bill's story lives on with each of us as he has inherited a new life as promised. He is refreshed and well, and we are assured that we will see him again one day!

Missed more than I can put in words , more than my only brother ,Bill was the best of friends...always in my thoughts so you are eternal Bill.
