William was born, November 28, 1924 in Newark, NJ to William and Mary (Docklan) Hayes. He was employed as an electrical engineer at Square D Company in Newark, NJ. On October 19, 1963, William married Joan Elizabeth Rudolph in Springfield, NJ. In 1987, the Hayeses moved from the Garden State of New Jersey to sunny Orlando, Florida where they had resided until December of 2020.
William is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan Hayes, four daughters, Kimberly Fonteix of Manahawkin, NJ, Tracey Schirra of Phoenix, AZ, Shannon Clark of College Station, TX, Erin Hayes of Daytona Beach, FL; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to everyone.
William loved sports, especially football, where his favorite team was the New York Giants. A beloved swim coach, William spent many nights and weekends on the pool decks of the Union Boys Club and the Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA. William was always available to any of his swimmers who needed some time and good advice. He was always patient and understanding. William inspired everyone he encountered to be a better person. He was a great man, a great husband, a great father and a great friend. He will always be loved and missed.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2020 at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Rd. Gotha, FL 34734.
