Alma Jean Hourvitz died peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2020, surrounded by her family. Alma was born in Flint, MI, on December 31. 1926, to Orpha and Oscar Griesa. She married Ralph Hourvitz on October 22, 1949, and together they raised 4 daughters (AKA “The Hourvitz Girls”). She was active in the community as a volunteer while her daughters were growing up. When the youngest was in college she took needlepoint lessons which evolved into a career which lasted until she was 88-years-old. She owned Needlepoint Pedaler where many people enjoyed taking lessons from her and stitching. She continued lessons even after her shop closed. Alma leaves her daughters: Shelley Kahn, Sidnee Factor (Ken), Robin Kaplan (Robert), Kim Himelhoch (Jeff); 10 grandchildren: Jennifer Rosenberg (Marc), Andrew Kahn (Jill), Geoffrey Kaplan (Orli), Emily Mohr (Jon), Katie Smith (Tom), Alison Gervat (Chris), Zachary Himelhoch (Heather), Lesley Miller (Tim), Jonathan Kahn (Nina), and Benjamin Himelhoch (Chelsea); and 19 great-grandchildren: Paul, Brooke, Lily, Jackson, Olivia, Mason, Addison, Tyler, Harrison, Emery, Brooks, Blake, Landon, Griffin, Crosby, Max, Amelia, Levi, and Charli; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Hourvitz; parents, Orpha and Oscar Griesa, brother Oscar Griesa, son-in-law, Paul Kahn.
