

GRIFFEN, Betty Sue – Age 89, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2011 at Brian’s House Hospice. The Funeral Service will take place 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Phoenix United Methodist Church, 4423 S. Genesee Rd., Burton with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Rev. Bruce Billing will officiate. Burial will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Hill Funeral Home. Betty was born to John and Rilla Fox on July 9, 1921 in Ft. Recovery, Ohio and she married Vern Carrol Griffen on January 1, 1942. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Betty was a member of the Phoenix United Methodist Church for many years. She was a very generous and loving woman. Betty loved animals and took in many strays. Betty loved to cook, bake and took pride in preserving and canning the harvest from her husband’s garden. She is now reunited with the love of her life, Vern. She is survived by her two sons, Robert E. (Elaine) Griffen of Onaway, Kenneth D. (Juna) Griffen of Burton, one daughter, Carole S. (Larry) McClain of Burton; six grandchildren, Krista Quicke, Lauren (Jeff) Diedrich, Nicole (Andy) Bentoski, Alayna Griffen, Ian McClain and Allison McClain; four great grandchildren; special niece, Mary Bangassaro and son Alpha; special extended family members, George and Marilyn Williams and family, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Griffen was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Willard (Esta) Armstrong, sister, Angeline (Harold), husband Vern and son Bill. The family would like to give special thanks to the caring staff of Brian’s House.
