

RATHBURN, Betty Lou, - Age 82, of Grand Blanc, passed away January 9, 2011 at Cheboygan Memorial Hospital. Her family will host a visitation Sunday, January 23 from 10:00am until 1:00pm, followed immediately by a Celebration of Life memorial service at Brown Funeral Home 1480 E. Hill Road, Grand Blanc. Inurnment will take place at Flint Memorial Park on Monday January 24 at 10:00am. Memorial contributions may be made to the Democratic Party.
Betty was born in Flint on September 9, 1928, the daughter of Kenneth and Dorothy Myers. Betty earned a bachelor's degree in education at Central Michigan University and a Master's degree in administration at the University of Michigan. She never stopped believing in the Michigan football program. Betty began her career as an educator at Merrill Elementary School, She moved on to the Bentley School District. She ended her career at Carman-Ainsworth Community School District where she worked as a teacher and administrator. She also served as the CAEA union president. After retirement, Betty served as President of the Board of Education for the Linden Public Schools, worked in her daughter's restaurant and took care of her precious grandchildren. She was a lifelong educator and learner. Betty was known as the Queen Bee to her family. She loved her brothers and sisters, children, grand and great grandchildren and her nieces and nephews more than anything. She loved the state of Michigan and spent a lot of time in St. Helen, Mackinaw City and the UP. Betty will be best remembered by her sharp intellect and wit. Her favorite holiday was Ground Hog's day. She was a champion for equal rights for all and always looked out for those who needed help.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Becky (Steve Hall) Rathburn and Gerry Lou (Andrew) Kania; Grandchildren, Ryan (Lori), Shaun (Sara), Ashlee and Brett Yzquierdo, Andy (Heather) Hall, Amy Baker and Josh Hall; Great grandchildren, Katelyn Yzquierdo, Emily Baker, Carter and Collin Hall; Siblings, Sue Abbenante, John (June) Myers, and Mary Spencer. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and her special "son out law" Kevin Yzquierdo. She was preceded in death by her parents, a special niece and nephew, and her younger brother Donald W. Myers.
