BASEL, Charles – of Grand Blanc, age 80, passed away Monday, September 16, 2019 at Addington Place in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Funeral Service and Burial with military honors will be held at 1PM Monday, September 30, 2019 in the Chapel at Flint Memorial Park in Mt. Morris, Michigan. Chaplain Donald Bennett officiating. The family will receive visitors on Monday, September 30, 2019 prior to the service. Charles was born March 1, 1939 in Flint, Michigan to the late Emil and Carmela (DeRosa) Basel. He grew up in Flint, Michigan, graduating from Grand Blanc High School. He was the Historian for his graduating Class of 1958. Charles proudly served his country in the US Army from 1959 - 1961 as a Chaplain's Assistant based in Germany. He worked as a journeyman typesetter for the Flint Journal then was employed by General Motors until he retired.
Charles was a life-long reader of his beloved Flint Journal and a wide variety of informational nonfiction books; he particularly followed the life and work of the Rev. Billy Graham. He enjoyed photography and especially liked to record and document events for family and friends.
The family would like to give a special “Thank You” to Grace Hospice, Spencer Manor and Addington Place for their wonderful, loving care.
Surviving are: Sisters Charlotte Sturtz of Goodrich, MI and Rosemary White of Hampstead, MD; nephews and nieces - Mark Sturtz, Amber Sturtz, Susan White and Bill White.
