Clara Elizabeth “Libby” Anderson, 92, a longtime resident of Grand Blanc and a wife, mother, and educator, died Friday, December 28, 2018.Libby was born in Duluth, Minn., the daughter of Lawrence and Mary Emily Stratton. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English and political science from Northwestern University, and did post-graduate study at the University of Michigan, where she met her future husband, Jack Anderson. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in November. Libby worked as a kindergarten teacher in Birmingham before becoming a full-time homemaker. She was a longtime volunteer at the International Institute of Flint, where she taught English as a second language to immigrants, and at the Visually Impaired Center. She was a member of Delta Zeta sorority and active in its local alumnae chapter, and also was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ of Grand Blanc. In addition to her husband, she is survived by son James Anderson of Greenville; daughters Elizabeth “Betsy” Sullivan (David) of Moorestown, N.J., and Carol Hughes (Charles) of Edmond, Okla.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and a nephew. Her brother, Lawrence Merritt Stratton, predeceased her. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 2pm at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc.
