Colleen Joyce Elliott Merrithew, age 92, passed away on March 16, 2019, comfortably at home in Bella Vita Senior Living, Grand Blanc MI. Funeral Services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 20, 2109 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 4285 McCandlish Rd., Grand Blanc, MI. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc, MI. Mrs. Merrithew was born September 17, 1926 to Michael P and Julia Wright Elliott in Neon, Kentucky. She moved to Washington D.C. after graduation from Pikeville High School, Pikeville, KY in 1944. She met her husband Knolton Albert Merrithew, who was then in the Navy, they married February 3, 1945. They lived in Washington D.C. where Mr. Merrithew worked in government service until 1951 when they moved to Flint Michigan, he eventually working at Fisher Body. They had 4 children Dr. Michael A. Merrithew of Grand Blanc, Michigan, Robert B. Merrithew – deceased – (Beverly) of Meridian, Idaho, Leah Webster of Fresno, California, and Rebecca Anderson (Christopher) of Grand Blanc, Michigan. Mrs Merrithew was an enthusiastic gardener, whom all her friends and neighbors knew from her outdoor activities and flowers. She also spent many years researching her genealogy and serving in a family history library to help others with their research. She loved homemaking, entertaining, and serving in her church. She worked at Michigan Association of the Deaf and Social Services for the Hearing Impaired for many years as an interpreter, book keeper, and executive secretary. Her greatest love was her 4 children, 19 grandchildren, and 41 great grandchildren. Proceeding Colleen in death were her husband Al, her parents, her sister Deloris Blair, and her brother Mickey Elliott. Since their marriage, she and her husband were active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving many people and enjoying many blessings. Colleen’s family gives special thanks to the Bella Vita staff and administration for their kind and compassionate attention in her final months. In lieu of flowers, donations honoring her memory may be made to any good cause of your choice.
