Dana Leigh Zarichny, 66 of Clio & Flint, passed away on the first day of autumn, September 22, 2018. Dana grew up in Clio, Michigan and was the oldest child of George Zarichny & Phyllis Stanick. Her younger brothers were Lindsey (aka Lance) and Brian Zarichny.
As a girl, she loved reading, motorcycles, and her daddy. As a young woman she was spontaneous and spent her time on adventures and activities that would enlighten her mind and expand her awareness of the world around her. She was a true flower child, rejecting conventional society, while advocating for peace, equality and love. Simply put, she was a free spirited, tree hugging, fun loving hippie from the 60’s.
Dana had one son with her first husband, Raymond Czuchna. She named him after his father and her favorite Beatle. Raymond Paul Czuchna was born in 1969. Before he started school, Dana took her young son, Paul, on an adventure to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan when she moved to the small college town of Marquette for some fresh air and a new perspective.
She later had three children with Tim Bovee of Clio, Michigan. Felicia O. Bovee was born in 1977. Selena M. Bovee was born in 1978 and her youngest, Ty E. Bovee, was born in 1979. She raised her kids on Watson Drive and spent summers camping at the Bovee pond on Wilson Road in Clio.
Dana loved her children deeply and whole heartedly. She was a supportive mother who always found creative ways to nurture and bond with her kids. She worked in the school’s library, was a Girl Scout leader and even coached girls volleyball to middle school monsters. She bought a camera and took hundreds of practice pictures of Selena while in modeling classes and sang her out of bed for school. She worked in Paul’s baseball card shop and later showed houses for him. She learned to play the guitar with her son Ty and then managed the books for his construction business. She would drop everything to fly to Felicia’s side to help her unpack at each big move and even went skydiving just to be involved in her passion. She was genuinely interested in what made her children happy and always found ways to support their interests and dreams.
She has five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her oldest son Paul, had her first born Chantele R Martinez-Czuchna who gave her three great grandchildren. Paul later gave her three younger Czuchna grandchildren: Levi, Trenton, and Amelia. Dana was extremely close with her oldest grandson, Brandon A. Bovee. Dana helped Felicia raise Brandon and always had a special bond with him. She fueled his creativity, and cherished their time spent together talking, gardening, cooking, doing repairs, and exploring new ideas, places and things.
Dana was intelligent and an avid reader who enjoyed the outdoors and gardening. She had a degree in accounting and business administration and called herself a life long scholar. She also loved music, cooking, collecting rocks, and most of all, excellent conversation. Her favorite topics were philosophy, the universe, and human nature.
Dana is pre-deceased by her parents, both of her ex-husbands, and her brother Lindsey.
In accordance with her wishes, Dana was cremated and she didn’t want people crying at her funeral, so her children invite all who knew her, to join us at her Celebration of Life Party on Friday, November 2, 2018 starting at 5pm. This unique Free-Spirited event will be at Brown Funeral Home, 1480 E. Hill Rd., Grand Blanc, MI. Dress as you want, but please, nothing too stuffy - remember she was a bra burner.
