Dawn Marie Elford

June 27, 1965October 2, 2021

Dawn Marie Delmotte Elford, 56, of Kalkaska, passed away on Saturday, October 2, 2021, with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of Gerald Elford, mother of Joshua Elford (Cookie), sister to Andrea Delmotte (Stacey) and Richard Delmotte (Kelly), daughter-in-law to George and Sharon Elford, sister-in-law to Nancy Wolschleger (Scott), Karen Barrow (Brett), Greg Elford and aunt to many nieces and nephews whom she loved and treated as her own children. Dawn was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Grace (Oakie) Delmotte. Dawn enjoyed planning and organizing parties especially her yearly family reunion. She loved spending time with family and friends and she never met a stranger. The love that she showered on everyone she met immediately made them friends. One of her favorite pastimes was taking pictures of the wildlife she saw daily in her backyard off her deck. We would like to thank Dawn’s work family at MDHHS for all their support and Hospice of Northern Michigan for the care during this time. In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Jude's or an animal shelter of your choice.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at for the Elford family.

Dawn was my first supervisor @ DHHS, a warm smile and welcome she gave to us everyday. Our unit would literally hang in her office to get away from the pressures of the job and she never turned us away. She was so kind and loving to us all. I remember when my parents died she wrapped her arms around me and checked in on me daily. When I had my first child she threw me the baby shower of my dreams. They don’t make them like her anymore, she truly was a gift to us all. My heart aches , but then I remember God picks the pretty flowers too. Prayers Jerry, Josh & the family 🙏🏾

Jerry, I wrote this Sunday night, when I got the news. I am so sorry for this enormous loss. I know that all of her friends are devastated, I can't even imagine what each of you are feeling.

It's always darkest before the dawn, how will it be now that you're gone
There are not too many, who carry light, Who took the time to gain insight
Whose very presence brought forth fun, with arms available for everyone
Who encouraged you thru any struggle, Who took on tasks, with time she juggled
Kind and Smart, Brave and Resilient, calmed the storm wherever she went
She was Rare & Special, which she'd deny - Confident yet Humble, a glint in her eye
When conflict rose, she reached in her bag, "We are Switzerland, so wave your Flag"
Dawn will be missed so very much . . Sending Love and Hugs, Karen
