With hearts full of love, we celebrate the life of Rev. Douglas "Doug" Kiel, who entered into his heavenly home on March 30, 2025 at the age of 58. Doug was a man of deep faith, boundless generosity, and unwavering love for his family, friends, and community. Doug was born on September 25, 1966 to Martin and Judy Kiel.
Doug found joy in bringing people together—whether through teaching Sunday school, playing the organ and piano, or gathering loved ones around a warm bonfire with s’mores in hand. A natural teacher and storyteller, he had a way of making every moment meaningful, ensuring those around him felt seen, valued, and cherished.
Creativity flowed through every part of Doug’s life. His hands not only played beautiful music but also crafted stunning stained glass pieces, including multiple beloved nativity scenes for family and friends that will be treasured for generations. He poured his heart into the kitchen as well, baking and cooking meals that nourished both body and soul. Celebrations were always a big deal to Doug—he believed every occasion was worth honoring, and no one ever left his presence without feeling special.
Above all, Doug adored his family, especially his beloved wife and daughters, who were the light of his life. He was their biggest cheerleader, their guiding hand, and their constant source of love. His generous spirit knew no bounds, always giving—whether through a thoughtful gift, a warm meal, or simply his time and presence.
Doug’s legacy is one of love, kindness, faith, and music, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. While our hearts ache at his passing, we find comfort in knowing he is now at peace, playing heavenly music and celebrating in the presence of the Lord.
Doug is survived by his wife, Kristi; daughters, Sophie Margaret Kiel and Anika Noel Kiel; father, Martin Kiel; brother, Brian (Rhonda) Kiel; sister, Sue (Dave) Hendriksen; beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, step family members and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his mother, Judy and mother-in-law, Pat.
A service to honor Doug’s life will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025 with visitation beginning at 12:00pm until 1:45pm followed by service at 2:00pm at Resurrection Reformed Church, 5225 Calkins Road, Flint, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to carry forward his spirit of generosity—whether by sharing a meal with a friend, offering a kind word, or giving a gift just to make someone smile.
