Duane "Sandy" Albert Clayton II

CLAYTON, Duane Albert II “Sandy” age 81, died Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the Mclaren Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family and friends. Sandy was born June 1, 1944, in Detroit, MI to parents Duane “Duke” and Dorothy Clayton while Duke was deployed in WWII. Sandy graduated from Berkley High School and after served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. After leaving the Military, Sandy went to work for General Motors at the Tech Center then transferred to Flint where his family had moved. He then worked for Chevrolet and later for A.C. where he later retired. Sandy loved to travel. He and his wife Susan traveled all over the U.S. by car and motorcycle. Sandy was a former member of the Swartz Creek Masonic Lodge, Elf Khurafeh Shrine, Shrine Motorcycle Drill Team, Shrine Security Unit and Mini Car Unit. Sandy loved spending time with his family and would give you the “shirt off his back” if he could help you. Sandy is survived by the love of his life, wife Susan Clayton who he married in 1999, step-children Amy (Jim) Scott, Robert (Tyler) Nowak, Eugenia (Scott) Traglia, Glynn Burchett, brother Todd (Lisa) Clayton, niece Erica (Eddie) Brock, nephew Sean (Alicia) Clayton, several nieces, nephews and cousins and many good friends especially Phil Alward. Sandy is preceded in death by his parents, sister Jill Clayton, sister and her husband Sherry (John) Mills, aunts and uncles. A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held in the spring when Michigan weather permits, at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly Michigan. The family would extend a SPECIAL thanks to the wonderful men and women of the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office and the law enforcement and ambulance services in the Swartz Creek area for caring for us and staying with us till the end. We, the people of Genesee County are so fortunate to have such caring people. Contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
