
passed away Feb. 2, 2011 at the Avalon Hospice. She went peacefully
in her sleep. Elaine was born in Denver, Colorado on July 10, 1931 to
Swedish parents Venard and Eleanor (Hedeen) Johnson. She
graduated from Denver's East High School in 1949 and earned a B.A.
degree in Elementary Education from the University of Colorado in
1953. In 1955, Elaine married Burton R. Jackson of Flint, MI. Elaine
loved teaching young children - both English as a Second Language
(ESL) at the International Institute of Flint, and as a Sunday School
teacher at Community Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the
Community Church family for over 40 years. She held dear to her
heart her home state of Colorado and the American Southwest. She
was inspired by the mountainous country and the history of the
frontier lands and its' culture. Her family came first in her heart, and
she dearly cherished each of her grandchildren. She will be deeply
missed by all who knew and loved her. Elaine is survived by her
husband, Burton R. Jackson, daughters Nancy and Ann, son Thomas,
grandson Jacob Jackson, granddaughters Joslyn and Rebecca Jackson,
brothers Dale Johnson of Aurora, CO and Ken Johnson of Flagstaff, AZ,
as well as other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her
brother Donaven Johnson of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Memorial services will be held this summer. Donations can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
