Esther Marie Galuszka passed away on 4 February, 2021 in Grand Blanc after a long fight with Parkinson’s.

She was born in Flint on January 16, 1941 to Leo and Fern Violet Lutz. Her father immigrated from Friedrickshafen, Germany, crossing the ocean in 1923. Her mother came from German and Swiss farmer stock in the Toledo/Wauseon, Ohio area. She was quiet, unfailingly kind, diligent in all things (as a good German is), and displayed a resilience throughout her life of which we are now in awe.

Esther grew up in Flint and graduated from the nursing program at Hurley Hospital in 1962. She married Paul Thomas Galuszka in 1965 and they moved onto Rust Park Drive in Grand Blanc, which would be her home for the next 50 years. She and Paul were very active in the community with the Jaycee’s, American Legion Post 413, and city council. They also made Jennifer, Joanne, and Douglas part of their family through adoption, to their children’s great good fortune.

Paul passed from lung cancer in 1992, but Esther’s energy and interest in the world never wavered. She volunteered in multiple organizations, was active in the First Presbyterian Church in Flint, took care of any and all of her many friends when they were sick or in need, and she explored the world, ranging from Lake Michigan, to Norway, Germany, the Caribbean, and even a glacier in Alaska. Her love and closeness with her Mother was a defining feature of her life. Esther’s children and grandchildren- Justin, Gabriella, and Benjamin- hold her memory dear, as do her friends and extended family. In the end we know this of her- no one worked harder, no one showed more kindness, and no one did more good. In her, God is well pleased. Time to rest.

A private internment will take place on February 9th at Evergreen Cemetery and a memorial party will be organized to honor her post-COVID.

Fond memories may be offered the family via the online guestbook at www.HillFH.com

I have known Esther for many years, she was kind and loyal friend, if you needed anything, she was there for you. I pet sit for Yuki for many years when she would go on vacation to see her family in Germany and in Puget Sound. I will miss Esther, and all of the good times we had at Abbey Park and at Rust St. Keeping all of you in my prayers.

Esther and I have been close friends for nearly 50 years. I have so many wonderful memories. One of my favorite was the time Paul had surgery on his back and when he was ready to be released we used our ambulance to pick him up. But I borrowed my brother-in-law’s Budweiser sheets which we put on the cot. Then we proudly wheeled our illustrious GB Mayor through the hospital, and on the way home he had great fun sitting up and waving to passers by.
My prayer for Esther is that she is now joyfully reunited with Paul, Fern and Irene, and so many of our dear friends. Love to each of you.

I had some of the best times with Ms. Esther while I was a caregiver for her while she lived at Abbey Park, she was always trying to make the most of her days no matter what and she had a character like no other I have worked with. I enjoyed our walks outside the most, I have missed Esther everyday since not working for her anymore and I pray she is at peace.
one of my favorites that will stay in my heart always💕
