Floyd C. Olmsted, 83, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018 with his wife, sons and family by his side. He was born in Lum, Michigan and spent much of his childhood and early adult years in Owosso, Michigan.
He graduated from Michigan State University and was an avid sports fan and passionate MSU Spartan.
Floyd loved music and singing. He played the saxophone and was part of a jazz combo to work his way through college. He sang in the Michigan State University Glee Club, performing during the Eisenhower-Nixon inauguration and on the Ed Sullivan Show. He also sang in numerous choirs and the Flint Male Chorus.
He began his professional career working as the credit manager for Woodard Furniture. In 1963, he and his wife, Elaine (Vacek), moved to Flint were he worked as an accountant for General Motors Fisher Body, The City of Flint and Hurley Medical Center, where he spent most of his career before retiring as Director of Finance in 1989.
For many years he was active at Central United Methodist Church singing in the choir, leading the youth group and serving on the finance committee.
He was also active in the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) and served as its Michigan president. More recently, he was a member of Hope United Methodist Church and the West Flint Optimist Club.
Floyd is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elaine, and three sons Karl (Mark) of Fenton, Kurt (Lydia, Samuel and Eliana) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and David of Burton. He is also survived by his brother Fred (Louanne) of St. Johns; nieces Jennifer Smith and Vicki Yankee; and nephews Matt Olmsted and James Vacek.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home on Hill Road. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
