It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Lee Kraemer, a brilliant mind, loving father, and true master of all things mechanical and electrical. Gary passed away peacefully surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy defined by ingenuity, generosity, and boundless curiosity.
Raised in Grand Blanc, Michigan, Gary began his working life as a talented young mechanic at Yerkey and Son Chevrolet. His relentless pursuit of excellence led him to a distinguished career at the AC Spark Plug Division of General Motors in Flint, where he retired as an electronic engineering technician. Throughout his career and beyond, he was known far and wide as the absolute best mechanic, electrical and electronics technician, and repairman the world has ever known. There was truly nothing he couldn't troubleshoot or fix — from the simplest of machines to the most complex systems.
A man of many passions, Gary was a licensed private pilot for 45 years, sharing the skies with the same skill and precision that marked his every endeavor. He was a proud member of the Saginaw Bay Yacht Club, a dedicated boater, and an enthusiastic participant in drag and sports car racing. His love of speed was matched by his steady aim as a skilled trap and skeet shooter.
When he wasn't flying, boating, or racing, Gary could often be found at his workbench, immersed in the world of shortwave radio and electronics. He helped countless friends and neighbors repair their cars, boats, and planes, always with a smile, never expecting anything in return. His legacy lives on in the hands and hearts of those he taught — especially his sons, to whom he passed down his immense knowledge, work ethic, and love of hands-on problem-solving.
A gifted athlete in his youth, Gary proudly held the Grand Blanc High School shot put record of nearly 53 feet, set in 1961 — a testament to his strength and determination, qualities he carried with him throughout his life.
Above all, Gary will be remembered for his extraordinary kindness, fierce loyalty, and boundless ability to inspire. He was a teacher, a friend, a craftsman, and a cornerstone to everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Linda; sons Todd Kraemer (Joanne) and Troy Kraemer (Michelle); grandchildren Benjamin Kraemer, Josie Kraemer and Landrea Blackmore (Devon); great-grandchildren Tillie Jo Blackmore; many nieces and nephews; and special friends Bruce Lipford and Doctor Larry Pack (Pack-Man)
He was preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Leona (Newlin) Kraemer; sisters Doris O'Brian and Norma Wojcik.
He will be deeply missed — but never forgotten.
